Transformational Education
Teaching and Learning
as Leadership
“Transformational education has the power to reshape the educational landscape.”
-Jeri Echeverria, Ph.D
Educators are leaders. Transformational teaching allows faculty to lead each student through a process of self-discovery, shifting from expert to facilitator and coach. What if educators could authentically look at how the world occurs for their students and bring them along from where students are?
Students are leaders. Transformational learning combines being with knowing so that students experience themselves as natural learners leading themselves as students. Through the ontological/phenomenological methodology, students engage in a way of learning that is not conceptual or theoretical but that provides direct access to whatever is required to enhance performance.
The Ontological / Phenomenological Model
Ontology: the study and science of being The ontological model of leader and leadership provides direct access to the actual nature of being when one is ‘on the court’, real-time, being a leader, and opens up and reveals the source of one’s actions when one is ‘on the court’, real-time, exercising leadership.
Phenomenology: the methodology used in ontology The method that provides direct access to the actual as lived in the moment, on-the-court experience of being a leader and exercising leadership effectively.
“The ontological / phenomenological method is an approach to the nature and function of being for human beings that provides access to altering who people are being and what they are doing – intentionally – so as to be more fulfilled, satisfied, and more accomplished.”
-Steve Zaffron
